Getting Started with Counseling

CrossPoint Ministries offers counseling and encouragement to those going through a difficult season in their life. God has used Chuck and Alison through the years to unveil the Word of God to help those who need answers to life's most difficult experiences such as rape, abortion, adultery, depression, suicide, anger management, eating disorders, addictions, inner healing and more. Their approach is Spirit-led based solely on the GRACE of God and the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross. Every session will incorporate prayer and biblical principles mixed with the gifts of the Spirit (1 Corinth. 12, Rom. 12). Psalm 1:1 tells us to not walk in the counsel of the ungodly which makes Christian counseling unique for the whole person including spiritual as well as emotional. The goal of ongoing, comprehensive counsel is to allow God to bring the person to a place of hope, healing, freedom and wholeness. Appointment times are limited solely to the times offered and will be issued on a first come-first serve basis.
Chuck and Alison Lusted have also had extensive training on the Strategic Trauma and Abuse Recovery (STAR) trauma resolution therapy. Alison has also received a degree in pastoral counseling. Both Alison and Chuck have been counseling for over 20 years now offer trauma Resolution Therapy online which allows face to face counseling. CrossPoint Christian Counseling has a team of Trauma Resolution Therapists available to guide you through the healing process.

What is Trauma Resolution Therapy

Trauma- anything that has happened to you that has compromised your values and beliefs and caused you pain and loss. “trauma” is often misunderstood. The definition is actually very broad and can include life-threatening event or simply parents fighting at the dinner table when a child is present- in the child’s eyes it is traumatic because it shouldn’t be happening

Differences between Traditional Counseling (TC) and TRT:

1.    TC can go on for years and years just to help a person cope with issues

2.    TRT has a beginning and an end. Once traumatic events are resolved, it’s dealt with

3.    TC is symptom based- deals with “what” is going on in a person’s life

4.    TRT is source based- deals with the roots of why it is going on

5.    TC is “talk therapy” with coping skills, behavior modification and strategies to get through the next week

6.    TRT is a structured, proven process that combines scientific research with Biblical truth and guides you to resolve an issue.

Facts:

1. When a person goes through trauma, the brain is stimulated and shifts. Neurons can be destroyed based on the severity of the trauma.

2. When a person goes through the structured process of TRT, the brain is stimulated once again and this time it balances out. New neuro-pathways can be formed in the brain thus fostering healthy thinking patterns.
